Variety says that Warner Bros. Pictures is developing a remake of the 1974 buddy comedy Uptown Saturday Night with Overbrook Entertainment. David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers, upcoming The Change-Up) is attached to direct and executive produce the movie, to be written by Tim Dowling (upcoming This Means War).
Overbrook partners Will Smith, James Lassiter, Ken Stovitz and Jada Pinkett Smith will produce.
The original was directed by Sidney Poitier and starred Bill Cosby and Poitier.
The new film will likely diverge from the original’s storyline, and is being eyed as a starring vehicle for Will Smith and Denzel Washington.
