Bill Pullman, best known for his role as the President of the United States in Independence Day will return to the sci-fi genre as a cast member of the upcoming American iteration of “Torchwood.”
Series writer Jane Espenson confirmed the casting on her Twitter account, saying that she just heard the news officially herself.
A “Doctor Who” spinoff that began in 2005 in England, “Torchwood” has had an irregular pattern of episodes, opting for a five-part miniseries, “Children of Earth” that aired over the course of a single week in lieu of a third series/season.
The upcoming fourth series, “Torchwood: The New world,” is being produced and will take place in the United States, airing on the Starz network sometime in 2011.
Pullman will be joining by returning cast members John Barrowman, Eve Myles and Kai Owen as well as newcomer Mekhi Phifer in the part of a CIA agent, Rex Matheson.
