20th Century Fox Won’t Present in San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H This Year

A recent trend for San Diego Comic-Con has seen major movie studios opt out of bringing a song-and-dance to the event’s Hall H, and now another one has decided not to present as well. TheWrap brings word that 20th Century Fox will not make a presentation in Hall H this year amid concerns of piracy.

According to the site, the studio feels it can’t combat potential piracy of the exclusive footage being shown and has decided to not show any. Last year, footage from the studio’s presentation leaked online just days after and Warner Bros. Pictures even released the Suicide Squad Comic-Con Reel shortly after that was leaked as well.

This makes for a surprising turn of events given that the studio has a number of high-profile properties set to debut in the coming year. Assassin’s Creed will be released at the end of the year, with Wolverine 3, War for the Planet of the Apes, and Alien: Covenant all set to debut next year from the studio, plus the likes of Deadpool 2 and The New Mutants also in development. In lieu of footage being screened, announcements on any of these projects could have been made, but seemingly won’t.

Though a major presentation from the studio is off the table, they will likely still attend the convention in some capacity with a booth on the convention floor and promotions for some of their upcoming films.

TheWrap adds that Walt Disney Studios may also be considering skipping the convention, though a rep from Disney denied the claim. The Disney-owned Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm could opt out however, as Star Wars Celebration will kick-off in Europe the week before the convention and Marvel previously proved that if they build it, people will come.
