Jamie Foxx is Little John in Lionsgate’s Robin Hood: Origins
Lionsgate‘s Robin Hood: Origins has today found its Little John in the form of a big star: Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained, Ray). According to Deadline, the Academy Award winner’s take on the character will be as “a battle hardened but war weary veteran of The Crusades who starts out distrustful of Robin Hood (they fought on opposite sides), and then warms to the young hero.”
Described as an origin story in the vein of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, Robin Hood: Origins aims for a new take on the folk hero. The story finds Robin Hood (played by Kingsman: The Secret Service‘s Taron Egerton) returning from The Crusades to discover a Sherwood Forest rife with corruption and evil. Teaming with a band of outlaws, he takes matters into his own hands to set things right, with very little merry-making along the way. Eve Hewson (Bridge of Spies) will play Maid Marion.
Said to feature a “gritty” tone, the script for Robin Hood: Origins hails from Joby Harold, who recently penned Guy Ritchie’s revisionist take on Camelot titled Knights of the Roundtable. The film will be produced by Appian Way’s Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson along with Harold and Tory Tunnell’s Safe House Prods.
Foxx will next star in Open Road’s cop thriller Sleepless Night, and will soon begin shooting a co-starring role in Edgar Wright’s musical heist film Baby Driver opposite Ansel Elgort and Lily James.
