‘Independence Day’ Sequel Title Revealed, Plus First Look at Moon Tug Spaceship

20th Century Fox held a special event earlier tonight surrounding Independence Day 2, the twenty years later sequel no one asked for. The panel for the live, online event included director Roland Emmerich and cast members Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Angelababy, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward, Jessie Usher and Liam Hemsworth and there wasn’t exactly a lot of information passed on other than the title of the film will be Independence Day: Resurgence as well as a few photos of a ship referred to as the “Moon Tug”.

The film is set to hit theaters a year from now on June 24, 2016, here’s the plot:

After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global catastrophe on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Filming is now underway in Albuquerque, NM, here’s a look at the title treatment as well as a few pictures.
