Julia Stiles Returns for ‘Bourne 5’, Viggo Mortensen Rumored as Villain

With a release date set for just over a year from now, casting on the fifth Jason Bourne movie is underway. Matt Damon is set to reprise his role as Jason Bourne and he’ll be collaborating with Paul Greengrass as director after the duo took a break while Jeremy Renner starring in The Bourne Legacy for franchise creator Tony Gilroy. Today brings word Julia Stiles will be back once again as covert agent Nicky Parsons whom we last saw in a cafe learning Bourne’s body wasn’t found after he took a leap in the East River at the end of The Bourne Ultimatum.

Stiles is the only confirmed cast member beyond Damon with no new names added just yet, though it has been rumored Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) is being sought for a major role and now Jeff Sneider of The Wrap reports Viggo Mortensen has been offered a role as the film’s villain.

It’s unclear as to where the story will take things, but the idea Mortensen will play an actual villain is interesting. There doesn’t seem to be much reason to have Bourne on the run any longer, but if he actually had a mission that might prove a little more interesting.

Greengrass is writing the screenplay with Christopher Rouse who has served as editor on Greengrass’ two Bourne films as well as Captian Phillips United 93 and Green Zone.

Bourne 5 is set to hit theaters on July 29, 2016. [Deadline]
