Is ‘Indiana Jones 5’ Coming in 2018 or Not?

In an interview with Indiana Jones producer Frank Marshall over at Slashfilm they ask him about Indiana Jones 5, which has had plenty of rumors swirling around it lately including one saying Chris Pratt was being looked at as a possible lead and before that it was Bradley Cooper. So, when Marshall responds to the suggestion this is all Internet rumor saying, “Yeah. I mean, we’ve had no discussions on Indy 5 to date,” that sounds a bit disingenuous. Even if they haven’t written in a firm release date I have a hard time believing they’ve had no discussions.

As for those Internet rumors, they continue just as Marshall is denying any chatter with AICN reporting that “a long-time and trustworthy source” is telling them Lucasfilm has penciled in a fourth quarter 2018 release date for an Indy 5. The “penciling” aspect is what we should focus on here as this seems like it very easily could be part of a forward-looking plan that has Lucasfilm folks saying, “Uh, you see how Jurassic World did? What say we pencil in a few more release plans for sequels in the future.”

With Marshall being one of the producers on the mega-hit that is Jurassic World and the rumors of Pratt taking over the Indy role from Harrison Ford continuing to persist it would seem logical for the producers to again consider a new Indiana Jones with Pratt in the lead. After all, immediately following the success of Jurassic World Sony pulled the trigger on a big budget sci-fi they’d been balking at with Pratt as a co-lead opposite Jennifer Lawrence so why would Disney and Lucasfilm even second guess a new Indy film with Pratt in the lead if they could get it done?

As for Pratt, in a recent piece in “GQ” he maintains he hasn’t heard a peep about taking over the whip and fedora, “No one has ever even spoken to me about that,” he said. “Never. I’ve even seen Channing a couple times. As far as I know, that’s complete bullshit.”

We’ll see.
