I was under the impression there would be a three-minute trailer for Ridley Scott‘s The Martian premiering, but it appears the first thing to arrive is a promo titled “Ares 3: Farewell” introducing us to the film’s cast and crew of the Ares 3 crew as they set off on their mission to Mars.
Matt Damon stars as the film’s protagonist, Mark Watney, along with the likes of Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara and Michael Peña guide us through their ship, all before things take a turn for the worse. Here’s the film’s official plot:
During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return.
Set for release on Nov. 25, along with those already mentioned the film co-stars Jeff Daniels, Donald Glover, Aksel Hennie, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kristen Wiig, Mackenzie Davis and Sean Bean.
