Tobey Maguire’s Head is Exploding in ‘Pawn Sacrifice’ Poster

I caught Pawn Sacrifice at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and in my review I called it “a good movie, though nothing altogether ground-breaking or entirely revealing.” Suffice to say, it’s a’ight, which is why it wasn’t snatched up by any of the major studios and will be hitting select theaters come Sept. 18 courtesy of Bleeker Street, who’ve just released the film’s first poster.

Set during the height of the Cold War, American chess prodigy Bobby Fischer (Tobey Maguire) finds himself caught between two superpowers when he challenges the Soviet Empire and it plays out pretty much like your standard sports story with a focus on the tortured soul at its core. Liev Schreiber, Sophie Nélisse, Peter Sarsgaard, Lily Rabe, Robin Weigert, Michael Stuhlbarg and Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick all co-star.

Check out the poster below and you can read my full review right here. I expect we’ll have a trailer later today or tomorrow.
