Diego Luna has joined Felicity Jones in Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, the Star Wars spinoff to be directed by Godzilla helmer Gareth Edwards. Luna will play a co-lead alongside Jones as members of a group of solders who steal the plans for the Death Star.
The news comes from Variety that also seems to confirm earlier word that Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler) and Ben Mendelsohn will also star with the latter serving as the film’s primary villain. Big shocker there, Mendelsohn and Christoph Waltz ought to star in a documentary on how to get typecast as a villain.
The film takes place between Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope and it would stand to assume the mission to steal the plans is successful based on the events of the original Star Wars. Star Wars: Rogue One hits theaters on Dec. 16, 2016 while Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens arrives this December as the new “Star Wars Anthology” gets underway.
