Ewan McGregor to Play Lumière in Live Action ‘Beauty and the Beast’

Disney’s live action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast has finally rounded out its primary cast. Lumière, the candlestick who gets to perform the musical’s fan favorite number “Be Our Guest”, will be played by Ewan McGregor, marking his return to movie musicals after 2001’s Best Picture nominee Moulin Rouge! (I’m still surprised that movie was nominated for Best Picture).

That film may not be the greatest, though quite a bit of fun, but Ewan McGregor showed he knows how to act and sing. Obviously, Christian in that movie is a very different character than Lumière, which is a comic character part. I think of McGregor as the leading man type, but this could be an interesting part for him, and I’m quite interested to see if he pulls it off.

He joins the previously announced star studded cast that features Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as Le Fou, Kevin Kline as Maurice, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Babette, Audra McDonald as Madame de la Grande Bouche, and Ian McKellen as Cogsworth with Bill Condon directing.

Look… I’m excited for this movie. Okay?
