Steve Carell Joins Robert Zemeckis’ ‘Marwencol’ Narrative Re-Imagining

Steve Carell dipped his feet deep in dramatic waters last year with Foxcatcher, and it looks like the Oscar nominee’s not ready to get out of the pool just yet. He signed on to star in Robert Zemeckis‘ next project, a narrative remake of Jeff Malmberg‘s 2010 assault documentary Marwencol.

Under a screenplay by Caroline Thompson (Edward Scissorhands), Carell will play Mark Hogancamp, a man whose memory is wiped clean after vicious attacks. Hogancamp seeks recovery in “Marwencol”, a 1/6th scale World War II-era town he creates in his backyard. The upcoming film is under Zemeckis’ ImageMovers banner, housed by Universal, and Malmberg is attached to the project as an executive producer.

This appears to be Zemeckis’ next directorial effort, once he finishes up on another documentary remake The Walk, based on the Oscar-winning Man on Wire and scheduled to be released on Oct. 2.

This will not be Carell’s follow-up to Foxcatcher, as he recently wrapped on Freeheld, co-starring recent Oscar-winner Julianne Moore, and os currently filming a role in Adam McKay‘s ensemble piece The Big Short, also starring Christian Bale, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling and more. [The Wrap]
