Every kid who watched Star Wars at some point in time had to wonder to themselves, “How do you make a lightsaber?” At least, those who watched the original versions wondered as such–as we know the recent movies just relied on CGI. On the eve of Star Wars‘ Digital Movie Collection release, set to come out tomorrow, set decorator Roger Christian tells audiences how their glowing swords were made in an exclusive behind-the-scenes clip.

In short, it involves blue projection material and plastic. Though, of course, sound effects and the like make the whole thing seem more fun and tangible in the final product.
