New Picture from Spielberg’s ‘Bridge of Spies’, Newman Replaces Williams on Score

Dreamworks has announced today that Thomas Newman (Road to Perdition) has replaced John Williams (Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens) as composer for Steven Spielberg‘s upcoming movie, Bridge of Spies. As much as it would seem like Williams had to cancel due to his work on the new Star Wars film, the announcement says Williams had to step down due to a minor health issue, which has since been corrected. Williams will, however, return to work with Spielberg on his next film, the Roald Dahl adaptation, The BFG.

Meanwhile, the studio sent over the above new picture of Tom Hanks in Bridge of Spies where he stars as James Donovan, a Brooklyn lawyer who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the near-impossible task to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot.

The film is set for an October 16 release date and co-stars Mark Rylance, Amy Ryan, Alan Alda and Billy Magnussen.
