Chastain, Theron and Blunt Lined Up for ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ Sequel

Kristen Stewart‘s career has evolved from Twilight to the point she’s become the first American actress to win a Cesar award for her work in Olivier AssayasClouds of Sils Maria (add that one to your 2016 Oscar contenders list). So it’s no real surprise she won’t be returning to star in the Snow White and the Hunstman sequel, but the actresses that are lining up for the cast is a bit of a surprise. To me at least.

Said to be titled The Huntsman, both Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron are said to be back as Eric, the film’s title character and Ravenna respectively, as the story will be a prequel to the first film. The narrative will find Eric and Ravenna crossing paths long before Snow White ever entered the picture as he is sent to find a magic mirror, causing him to cross paths with the Snow Queen.

Now word has it that Jessica Chastain and Emily Blunt will also star in unspecified roles and Nick Frost is also back to play one of the first film’s seven dwarves.

Visual effects guru Cedric Nicolas-Troyan is directly, replacing the once-attached Frank Darabont, with a screenplay rewritten by Darabont from an earlier draft penned by Craig Mazin and Evan Spiliotopoulos.

I chose to report on this story because that is one hell of a line-up of top tier female actors. While the fact the film is being directed by yet another visual effects artist-turned-director doesn’t necessarily inspire much confidence, I’m now far more interested in this picture than I ever assumed I would be.

The movie is currently slated for an April 22, 2016 release. [Deadline]
