First ‘Mr. Holmes’ Teaser Poster Featuring Ian McKellen as an Aging Sherlock

Mr. Holmes will be premiering at the Berlin Film Festival in the next few days and Roadside Attractions is doing what it can to raise awareness for the film, which finds Ian McKellen playing an aging Sherlock Holmes in a story that provides a new twist on the world’s most famous detective. After a clip from the film arrived a couple days ago, today we get the first teaser poster as the film will be hitting theaters some time later this year.

Set in 1947, Mr. Holmes finds the famed detective returning from a journey to Japan, where, in search of a rare plant with powerful restorative qualities, he has witnessed the devastation of nuclear warfare. Now, in his remote seaside farmhouse, Holmes faces the end of his days tending to his bees, with only the company of his housekeeper and her young son, Roger. Grappling with the diminishing powers of his mind, Holmes comes to rely upon the boy as he revisits the circumstances of the unsolved case that forced him into retirement, and searches for answers to the mysteries of life and love – before it’s too late.

Laura Linney, Hiroyuki Sanada, Roger Allam and Frances De La Tour co-star with Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) directing. There isn’t a release date just yet, but should reviews out of Berlin be any good you can pretty much guarantee we’ll have one sooner than later.
