First Pictures of Leonardo DiCaprio in ‘The Revenant’

It’s The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu (Birdman).

[amz asin=”0786710276″ size=”small”]Already set for a Christmas 2015 release date, the pic is based on Michael Punke‘s novel, “The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge“, centering on Hugh Glass (DiCaprio), a 19th century fur trapper who is mauled by a grizzly bear and left for dead by a traitorous member of his team, John Fitzgerald (Hardy). With sheer will as his only weapon, Glass must navigate a hostile environment, a brutal winter, and warring Native American tribes in relentless quest to survive and exact vengeance on Fitzgerald. Will Poulter, Domhnall Gleeson, Lukas Haas and Brendan Fletcher also star.

Inarritu was quoted in the pages of EW saying, “It’s a very experimental thing that we’re doing here…I’m now addicted to doing things that can fail horribly or maybe that can give us a surprise. We are all into it.”

What he’s referring to is the fact they are shooting with only natural light in the Alberta, Canada wilderness, giving cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki (Gravity) only a few hours a day. Seems like another nomination for Lubezki may be in the offing.
