Well, this may be your chance to get this year’s Best Picture winner on your Blu-ray shelf before it’s even nominated. Lord knows it’s the critical favorite, just have a look at the points Boyhood has wracked up on MetaCritic’s critic top ten tracker. 307 with The Grand Budapest Hotel in a distant second with 149. Of course, this is pretty much a barebones release and we all expect a Criterion release in the future. So it’s up to you, do you want your Boyhood now or can you wait a while? Because it might be a long while.
I mistakenly thought this came out a couple weeks ago. It didn’t. But hey, now when I write about it I can say it was one of my theatrical review.
Get On Up
A solid little movie and one Chadwick Boseman deserves a little more recognition from. It isn’t immediately the first movie everyone thinks they need to see from this past year, but trust me, it’s one you’re likely to enjoy. It doesn’t shy from some of the darker elements of James Brown’s life and in that it finds a little more of a reality boost than these sugar-coated biopics tend to deliver.
No Good Deed
All I know about this one is they canceled the press screening at the eleventh hour. That’s never a good sign.
I haven’t heard anything all that good about this movie and from a couple people they considered it absolutely dreadful. I have a copy, but I’m not even sure I want to waste my time.
