Harry Potter Alum David Yates Set to Helm ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’

David Yates directed the last four Harry Potter movies (three if you consider the Deathly Hallows films as only one) and while he’s currently directing Tarzan for Warner Bros. it seems he’ll have two movies coming out from the studio in November as he’s signed on to direct Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, bringing him back into the world of Harry Potter with the film inspired by Harry Potter’s Hogwarts textbook of the same name.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is expected to be the first in a planned trilogy with this first installment set for a November 18, 2016. The story will follow the adventures of the book’s fictitious author, Newt Scamander. Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway.

It should be said there is no deal in place for Yates to direct just yet, but Variety seems confident in their reporting.
