As Warner Bros. attempts to fill out their slate of DC Comics films, we can now rest assured that one of them will be an Aquaman feature as the studio has set Will Beall (Gangster Squad) and Kurt Johnstad (300: Rise of an Empire, Act of Valor) to write competing scripts for a feature film based on the underwater superhero. Apparently both scripts will be developed at the same time until one is decided to be the best. Of course, given we’re talking about Beall and Johnstad here I think we’re looking for the script that’s the lesser of two evils as neither has shown any real talent for screenwriting as of yet.
At this time, it seems safe to assume Jason Momoa would be playing the title character as he has all but been confirmed to be playing the character in Zack Snyder‘s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In fact, Snyder recently took to Detroit radio airwaves to defend the character against a couple of morning radio DJs:
You guys were disparaging, a little bit, Aquaman…I don’t want to give anything away about the movie or anything like that but Aquaman has some cool abilities. People are like, “Oh what? Does he talk to animals? Cause that seems like what he does. Or fish?” The cool thing with Aquaman is he’s Triton so you have to realize that could cut the flesh of Superman if they came in contact. That’s a thing that’s in the canon. He’s super strong cause of course he can exist at these super deep depths so when he comes up here he’s crazy strong. Anyway, not to say he’s in my movie or anything like that but he has the potential to be bad ass, that’s all I’m saying.
I guess, if anything, that gives you a good idea how they’ll be approaching the character.
Now, head over here and try guessing which one of the untitled DC Comics release dates this one will fall on. Remember, we’re expecting a Justice League film, a Wonder Woman movie and a Shazam movie with Dwayne Johnson. These heroes gotta get in where they fit in. [THR]
