TIFF 2014: New Pictures of Travolta, Plummer and Sheridan in ‘The Forger’

The first picture from The Forger was revealed back in February as Solution Entertainment Group was looking to build some buzz around the film and now it’s looking to have its world premiere at the 2014 Toronto Film Festival in the Gala selection and with the announcement comes three new pictures.

Starring John Travolta, Christopher Plummer and Tye Sheridan, the film tells of a former child art prodigy and second generation petty thief, Ray Cutter (Travolta) who arranges to buy his way out of prison to spend time with his ailing son, Will Cutter (Sheridan). Ray and his father, Joseph Cutter (Plummer), must come together to carry out one last big job for the syndicate who financed his early release.

The picture is directed by Philip Martin (Exit Wounds) and I can’t lie and say this seems like anything more than a direct-to-video, mezzo mezzo family thrill-ride. That’s not to say it’s a bad thing, but I can’t help but feel it isn’t a film necessarily worth spending time in a theater watching. Of course, depending on how the schedule works out maybe I’ll find myself watching it in Toronto this year.

If anything it’s interesting to see Sheridan looking much more grown up after his appearance in films such as The Tree of Life and Joe in the last picture below. You can check out the entire Toronto lineup so far right here.
