Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits DVD and Blu-ray on September 9 and a pair of deleted scenes plus a blooper reel teaser have come online to help promote the release. I have included all three at the bottom of this post, but first there is some news regarding the continuing of the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Winter Soldier and next moving to Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Discussing the how they’ll move from the end of Winter Soldier where Captain America (Chris Evans) heads off to search for Bucky (Sebastian Stan) and then somehow get him involved in the Ultron storyline, writer/director Joss Whedon told Nerd HQ:
“The fact is, Ultron is a clear and present danger and Bucky’s in the wind. We do mention the fact that that’s his sort of primary thing, but he’s also working with The Avengers too. We’re not ignoring it, but he definitely has to deal with a mad eight foot robot, because that’s one of those things that you put it off and it just gets worse.”
I hear what Whedon is saying here, but this also speaks to specifically. When bad stuff happens and you have superheroes on speed dial why don’t you call them up?
People thought I was crazy for wondering where Iron Man was in Winter Soldier considering he is specifically mentioned and yet, here we have Whedon discussing clear and present dangers. You know, sort of like a fleet of air ships ready to murder millions. I know, I know… get over it… but hey, I’m only mentioning it again because clearly this is something that played a role in the idea of Avengers 2 so why doesn’t it play a part in the standalone features other than the fact Marvel doesn’t want to pay actors to show up in films that aren’t “theirs”? Moving on…
In other news, Captain America 3 co-director Anthony Russo discusses the next film with Yahoo saying the third film will take place a few years after Winter Soldier and as for Bucky Barnes (aka The Winter Soldier), “The character was invented for an explicitly political purpose. So it’s hard to get away from that nature. It’s also important that Captain America doesn’t become another disillusioned antihero, [but we’re] bringing some new elements to the table that will give us a twist on Winter Soldier.”
Captain America 3 is set to hit theaters on May 6, 2015, the same weekend as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Now here are those deleted scenes and blooper reel.
