Marvel has released nine new pictures from the upcoming movie Guardians of the Galaxy, a couple of which feature Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and in an interview with Comic Book Movie, Bautista spoke of the make-up process saying, “When we started, it was 4-5 hours just to put on, and 90 minutes to take off,” but as filming progressed the process of applying the make-up sped up to the point where it was taking just under three hours. Nevertheless, sitting that long and then having to wear all that mess while you’re performing has got to be a pain in the ass.
Meanwhile, Chris Pratt, who plays Star-Lord in Guardians, recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly and said he tried out for the lead role in James Cameron‘s Avatar as well as for the role of Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams‘ Star Trek reboot saying, “They said they want somebody that has ‘that thing,’ that ‘It factor’ … I walked into that room knowing that I did not have that thing, and I walked out thinking I would never have that thing, probably … I figured, I’ll find a way to make money and if that means I’m playing character roles, that’s terrific. People have to work. I just don’t want it to be at a f–ing restaurant.”
I like that last line and it’s definitely something to think about every time we say someone is just taking a job for the paycheck as if we would have the artistic integrity to turn some of these big budget blockbusters down.
As for the Guardians role, he initially turned it down the offer saying he didn’t really know why, “I was probably scared, and thought I was too fat to play a super hero. I didn’t want another Captain Kirk or Avatar moment.”
Now Pratt is not only leading the Guardians of the Galaxy, but he has a major role in the upcoming Jurassic World as his star has certainly risen and I don’t think he has to worry about that restaurant job he’s not particularly keen on.
Now check out eight more new pics from the movie, which hits theaters on August 1.
