Crowe & Gosling for Black’s ‘Nice Guys’, ‘Fast & Furious 7’ Complete, Del Toro Goes Small and More

Warner Bros. will distribute The Nice Guys to be directed by Shane Black (Iron Man 3) starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe. The period noir centers on a private detective and a beefcake who search for a missing porn star and uncover an underground ring of corruption. Black is expected to film Nice Guys before beginning work on the Predator sequel at Fox. [THR]

Gary Oldman is set to star in Criminal for director Ariel Vroman (The Iceman) alongside Kevin Costner. The thriller centers on a dead CIA operative’s memories, secrets and skills that are implanted into a dangerous prison inmate in hopes that he will stop a diabolical plot. Oldman would play a CIA chief. [THR]

Fast & Furious 7 has completed production and a note was posted on the film’s Facebook page to announce the occasion. The film hits theaters on April 3, 2015. [Facebook]

Guillermo del Toro says he’ll shoot a small, black-and-white movie with “one great creature in it” before beginning work on Pacific Rim 2.

Right away, in February/March I should [start on] another very small movie, black and white, really, really bizarre before starting — we start pre-production on Pacific Rim 2 in August, and then I interrupt it briefly to go into the first of next year to do this strange little movie, and then I restart it and go all the way until we start shooting Pacific Rim 2 at the end of 2015 for release in 2017.

No additional details were revealed though he does say he hopes to get John Hurt in the film along with an unnamed actress whose done “one feature and one short” for the main role. [Collider]

Parker Posey is the latest to join Woody Allen‘s next movie alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone. No other details are known at this point. [Woody Allen Pages]

The film is set on a remote Australian island in the years following World War I, and follows a lighthouse keeper and his wife who are faced with a moral dilemma when a boat washes ashore with a dead man and a two-month-old infant. When they decide to raise the child as their own, the consequences of their choice are devastating. The film is based on the novel by M.L. Stedman. DreamWorks will distribute. [The Wrap]

John Michael McDonagh (Calvary, The Guard) is looking at Guy Pearce for his next film. Titled War On Everyone, a film described as The French Connection with more jokes centering on two corrupt cops who go around blackmailing criminals and ripping them off. And they eventually cross a criminal who’s more dangerous than they are…or is he? Michael Pena and Garret Hedlund are already attached, Pearce could be playing the film’s villain. [The Playlist]
