The announcement of a new film from Joel and Ethan Coen is always reason for celebration, but once again the brothers are giving us added reason to cheer as Channing Tatum, Ralph Fiennes and Tilda Swinton have just joined the brother’ new film Hail Caesar!, joining a cast that was already headlined by George Clooney and Josh Brolin. The news comes from THR, which also adds a few new details to the film’s synopsis.
The story centers on Eddie Mannix (presumed to be played by Clooney), a “fixer” in Hollywood, circa 1950s, working for the studios to protect the stars of the day. Tatum will be playing a Gene Kelly-type star, Fiennes will play Laurence Lorenz, a studio director and Swinton will star as a powerful Hollywood gossip columnist.
As far as this new trio is concerned, Swinton is the only one with prior experience in a Coen film, starring in Burn After Reading.
Universal is distributing and should things move forward as planned I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see this one at Cannes next year.
