Wachowskis Take ‘Sense8’ to Netflix, Cast Announced

It was announced last May that Andy and Lana Wachowski were taking their latest story not to the big screen, but to Netflix for a 10 episode miniseries. The show, titled “Sense8” is said to follow eight characters around the world who, in the aftermath of a tragic death, find themselves linked to each other mentally and emotionally. Today more than just eight members of the international cast have been announced.

The list begins with Naveen Andrews (“Lost”), Daryl Hannah (Kill Bill: Vol. II), Brian J. Smith, Tuppence Middleton (Jupiter Ascending), Aml Ameen (The Maze Runner), Freema Agyeman (“Doctor Who”), Tena Desae (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), new Wachowski regular Doona Bae (Cloud Atlas), Max Riemelt, Alfonso Herrera, Erendira Ibarra, Jamie Clayton, Miguel Silvestri and Terrence Mann.

Word is each episode will follow separate characters, and once key factor is these characters. The connection they share not only allows them to see and talk to each other as though they were in the same place, they have access to each other’s deepest secrets. Their goal is to figure out what happened and why and what it means for the future of humanity, they must do so while being hunted by an organization out to capture, kill or vivisect them.

Georgeville Television is co-producing the project and producer Marc Rosen described the project as “an idea so big in size and scale that it doesn’t make sense to try it as a pilot. The only way to let the filmmakers realize their vision on something like this is to do multiple episodes.”

The Wachowskis penned the screenplay with J. Michael Straczynski (“Babylon 5”, Thor).

The series was originally expected to premiere in 2014, but plan is for it to hit Netflix streaming in 2015. [Deadline]
