What do we see in the Practical Magic 2 trailer?
The trailer starts with aunt Fran Owens telling Sally and Gillian that “no magic is stronger than sisterhood.” Set to Lana Del Rey’s version of “Season of the Witch”, it establishes that Sally remains single, while Gillian wants her to embrace life and rekindle her love life. The focus then shifts to Sally’s daughters, whom the sisters fear may also be cursed. One of them, Kylie (Joey King), is dating Xolo Maridueña’s unnamed character before tragedy strikes, sending her on a quest for answers. The footage closes with the Owens sisters coming face-to-face with Lee Pace’s mysterious character.
The original film was directed by Griffin Dunne, based on the 1995 novel by Alice Hoffman. While it received mixed reviews, it has attained a cult status over the years, thus leading to the demand for a sequel. Practical Magic 2 is the latest in line of legacy sequels coming decades after the original, joining the likes of Freakier Friday, The Devil Wears Prada 2, and more.

Practical Magic 2 is directed by Susanne Bier from a screenplay by Akiva Goldsman and Georgia Pritchett. The film is produced by Bullock, Kidman, and Denise Di Novi. Besides Bullock and Kidman, the film stars Dianne Wiest, Stockard Channing, Xolo Maridueña, Solly McLeod, Lee Pace, Joey King, and Maisie Williams. It is executive produced by Donald Sabourin, Alice Hoffman, Andrew A. Kosove, and Broderick Johnson.
The second film is based on Hoffman’s 2021 novel The Book of Magic. Hoffman has also published Magic Lessons, a prequel to Practical Magic. Practical Magic 2 will be released in theaters on September 11, 2026.
