‘Saved by the Bell’ Biopic Coming to Lifetime, First Cast Photo

If you were born in the late ’70s, any time in the ’80s and probably up to late-’90s you’re aware of the television show “Saved by the Bell“. I remember seeing it when it first aired and I think I was still watching it in my dorm room in college, probably on TBS with back-to-back episodes, you know, in-between all that studying I was doing.

Fans of the show remember Zack Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) and his giant cell phone, Tiffani Thiessen as Kelly Kapowski and who would ever forget the episode where Elizabeth Berkeley as Jessie Spano took drugs so she could study all night long. Then you have Mario Lopez who went on to a career in entertainment reporting, Dustin Diamond whom I believe was doing porn or something last I checked and Lark Voorhies who may be the one to have pretty much completely dropped off the map despite still working small jobs in the industry.

Well, now Lifetime is getting the gang back together, only this time it’s taking us behind the scenes with The Unauthorized Saved By the Bell Story with what THR says will center on the off-camera experiences of the six young stars of the 1990s comedy. The movie is reportedly inspired by, but not based on, Diamond’s 2009 book “Behind the Bell”, which went into the more “adult” aspects of the show’s stars’ off camera activities.

Seen in the picture above are the actors, chosen by original “Saved By the Bell” casting director Robin LippinDylan Everett as Zack Morris, Alyssa Lynch as Kelly Kapowski, Julian Works (Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones) as A.C. Slater, Tiera Skovbye as Jessie Spano, Taylor Russell McKenzie as Lisa Turtle and Sam Kindseth as Screech Powers.

I doubt I’ll end up watching this, but like “Saved by the Bell”, if I were flipping through the channels and it was on, I’d probably stop and give it a peek.

The Unauthorized Saved By the Bell Story is set for a Labor Day premiere.
