It’s Funny Because It’s True, Enter The Lego Ninjago

Warner Bros. has already announced Lego’s Ninjago for a September 23, 2016 release and they are using a spot for the just released The LEGO Movie on DVD and Blu-ray to introduce audiences unfamiliar with “Ninjago” (my hand is raised) to what we might expect and apparently it’s the simple addition of ninjas to a standard storyline.

[amz asin=”B00I6JOBTI” size=”small”]That, however, isn’t what caught my eye. To begin, I realize what may be perceived as hypocrisy when I say I enjoyed The Lego Movie, which is very self aware, but took a disliking to 22 Jump Street, which was nothing but self aware. Without digging too deep into the recesses of my brain, I can’t help but feel the reason is because the self awareness in The Lego Movie wasn’t there to give reason to the film’s existence, whereas in 22 Jump Street the bulk of the jokes seemed to suggest the film didn’t need to be made and isn’t it funny how we realize that and how this is all a cash grab. Muppets Most Wanted did the same thing.

Now we come to this little preview and, in a nutshell, it accomplishes the same thing 22 Jump Street did, while at the same time damn near proving exactly what it must be like working with a major studio. But, you know, we think it’s funny because it’s true and if they didn’t have this level of self awareness, oh how we’d shun them…. right?
