Dreamworks did a little release date shuffle recently, opting to release The Penguins of Madagascar on November 26 and moving Home to the Penguins‘ old, March 27, 2015 date. Whether this was a response to the less than stellar performance of Mr. Peabody & Sherman (remember that movie?) or what is unclear, but today we get our first look at Home, a new animation franchise that will probably make good use of the additional months of marketing.
Home is based on the critically acclaimed book “The True Meaning of Smekday” by Adam Rex, centering on the fiercely stubborn teenage girl Tip (voiced by Rihanna) and her relationship with outcast, optimistic alien Oh (Jim Parsons). Together they become the most unlikely fugitives ever to save the planet. Steve Martin and Jennifer Lopez‘s voices are also featured.

As for this trailer, I didn’t watch it, but I’m definitely getting a Despicable Me minions vibe from the little purple guys just based on first look alone.
