It’s all Marvel all the time as that’s one studio that needs to make sure we’re always talking about their movies for fear we just might forget they exist. Today’s latest rumor has Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy joining Jared Leto as possible contenders to take the lead role in Marvel’s Dr. Strange for director Scott Derrickson (Sinister). Want more info? Too bad, there isn’t any.
Beyond what I’ve just written, all we know right now is Kung Fu Panda scribes, Jon Aibel and Glenn Berger, and, at one time, Mads Mikkelsen (“Hannibal”), Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Johnny Depp were also rumored contenders for the lead role at one point.
Additionally, the studio has two placeholder dates at July 8, 2016 and May 5, 2017, one of which, presumably the former, will most likely be occupied by Strange.
The character in the comics is a surgeon that suffers a life-changing car accident and eventually heads to the Himalayas, gains psychic powers and saves the day, protecting the Earth against magical and mystical threats. Strange made his first appearance in the 1963 comic series “Strange Tales” and would go on to have his own comic series and would appear in several other comics that included “The Fantastic Four,” “Spider-Man” and Nick Fury.
