So Foxcatcher was a big hit in Cannes today, which will only make the wait for its November 14 release that much more agonizing. Of course, that’s how it works, but in the meantime an official Cannes poster for the film has been released and Sony Pictures Classics also felt it was time to re-release the trailer that found its way online last year only difference this time is the release date is included.
For those unaware of what I’m even talking about, Foxcatcher is the new film from Bennett Miller (Capote, Moneyball) and it was originally set to open last year and even had a slot in the AFI Film Festival. It was ultimately delayed, set for an early 2013 release and then moved again once it was clear SPC was targeting a slot at Cannes.
The film tells the true story of Olympic Wrestling Champion brothers Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) and Dave Schultz (Mark Ruffalo) and their relationship with the eccentric John du Pont (Steve Carell), heir to the du Pont Chemical fortune that led to murder.
As for those Cannes reviews, THR says “this beautifully modulated work has a great deal on its mind about America’s privileged class, usurious relationships, men’s ways of proving themselves, brotherly bonds and how deeply sublimated urges can assert themselves in most unsavory ways.”
Variety calls it an “insidiously gripping psychological drama” and “model of bleak, bruising, furiously concentrated storytelling”.
Just below I have included the trailer along with the official Cannes poster. I hope you’re as excited for this one as I am.
