I don’t believe we have this large a discrepancy at the top of the box office all that often, but the readers are going well above Laremy’s $67.3 million prediction for Godzilla with a reader average of $72.6 million. Personally I think the readers have this one, but it could be an interesting showing as Godzilla got off to a stronger start than The Amazing Spider-Man 2 last night with $9.3 million from late Thursday shows. Spider-Man 2 managed $8.7 million and to keep the comparisons alive, Captain America: The Winter Soldier brought in $10.2 million.
The other new release on the board is Million Dollar Arm and there seems to be a consensus on that one as the reader average of $12.1 million is only $100,000 over Laremy’s prediction, though both predictions are under the $13.3 million tracking. What gives? You don’t think families are going to go see this one?
As for the holdovers, no major differences in predictions for Neighbors or The Amazing Spider-Man 2, though Laremy looks good to beat the readers on these as he has the over on both. We’ll see.
