It was previously announced Quentin Tarantino will be on hand to help close the 2014 Cannes Film Festival with a celebration of the life and work of Sergio Leone with a 50th anniversary screening of a fully restored version of the director’s 1964 feature Fistful of Dollars on Saturday, May 24.
The film restoration was undertaken by the Cineteca di Bologna and Unidis Jolly Film (the film’s original producer and distributor) with the involvement of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and Martin Scorsese’s Film Foundation and tonight newly discovered outtakes from the film were released by Cineteca.
The outtakes include a scene in which Clint Eastwood as Joe (aka “Man with No Name”) fails to remove his gun from the holster, another where Eastwood and Gian Maria Volonté burst into laughter and more than one shot of the clapper board reading El Magnifico Straniero (The Magnificent Stranger), which was originally set to be the film’s title.
