You hear The Flintstones and “movie” in the same sentence and you’re most likely going to think of the 1994 movie starring John Goodman and Rosie O’Donnell. I actually never saw that movie, or its sequel, and it’s still the first thing that comes to mind, which is why I originally ignored today’s news Warner Bros. was looking to put a new Flintstones movie into production. However, they aren’t looking at another live-action movie and it seems they are even one-upping those involved in making it.
Will Ferrell and his Gary Sanchez partner Adam McKay are producing a new animated feature version of the 1960s cartoon centered on Fred Flinstone, his wife Wilma and their next door neighbors Barney and Betty Rubble.
Chris Henchy (The Campaign) is writing the script and I can only assume they are going to approach it in a way similar to what Phil Lord and Christopher Miller did with The LEGO Movie, a movie Ferrell had a major part in.
It’s also a likely assumption this is one of the two untitled animated films WB recently dated for either a February 10, 2017 or a February 9, 2018 release. Not as if that matters considering we’re talking about three to four years from now, but the fact Ferrell and McKay have a part in this make me wonder if we might have something worth looking forward to.
