‘Beverly Hills Cop’ Reboot Set for 2016 Release, Eddie Murphy Returning

Paramount is officially moving forward on a reboot (if you can call it that) of Beverly Hills Cop with Brett Ratner, who directed Murphy in 2011’s Tower Heist, set to direct and Eddie Murphy returning as Detroit police officer, Axel Foley. How can a film be a “reboot” if the star of the first three is returning? Doesn’t that just make it Beverly Hills Cop 4?

Nevertheless, the film is scheduled for a March 25, 2016 release date with a script from Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol scribes Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec. At this time this is the only film scheduled on that date as each weekend in March now has a film slotted.

Quoted by THR, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said, “We’re going to take Eddie [Murphy] back to Detroit… He’s going to be in Beverly Hills … so we’re going to have some fun with him.” Whatever that means.
