I’m posting this largely so you can watch Patrick Jean‘s short film if you haven’t seen it before as Sony is preparing Pixels, a feature film adaptation for release on May 15, 2015 putting it up against Pitch Perfect 2 and Mad Max: Fury Road.
Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) will direct with the cast already set to include Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Josh Gad and Peter Dinklage.
As for the story, here’s the plot:
When aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (James) has to call on his childhood best friend (Sandler), ’80s video game champion Jules Brenner, now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders to defeat the aliens and save the planet.
The short film is cute enough and I guess if they take something of a Mars Attacks! approach it could be fun, but at this point, and with Sandler and James involved, I’m not sure how interested I am.
