Justin Kurzel to Direct Michael Fassbender in ‘Assassin’s Creed’

After breaking out with Snowtown, Justin Kurzel just wrapped production on his Shakespeare adaptation of Macbeth starring Marion Cotillard and Michael Fassbender and he’s already lining up to team with Fassbender again on the adaptation of the Ubisoft video game Assassin’s Creed.

Based on the video game franchise, a bartender is captured by a secret corporation and sent back in time to relive the memories of his ancestors — all of them assassins — and retrieve ancient artifacts. 20th Century Fox has already set a August 7, 2015 release date for the film with at least four writers currently credited with the adaptation — Bill Collage, Adam Cooper, Scott Frank and Michael Lesslie. No word on the state of the screenplay right now, but Fassbender has long been attached to this film, which would suggest he has some confidence in its theatrical possibilities.
