‘Justice League’ is a Go, Zack Snyder to Direct after ‘Batman vs. Superman’

So we all pretty much assumed Batman vs. Superman would eventually be titled Justice League given the fact it will feature Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and the recently cast Ray Fisher as Cyborg along with rumors of cameo appearances from other Justice League heroes. Well, scratch that assumption off your list as the Justice League film will follow the 2016 release of Batman vs. Superman (aka Man of Steel 2) and Zack Snyder will direct both films, which will give him his own superhero trilogy on the heels of 2013’s Man of Steel.

The news comes via the Wall Street Journal, quoting Warner Bros. president of worldwide production Greg Silverman saying, “[Batman vs. Superman] ‘Superman vs Batman’ will be a further expansion of this universe” and “will lead into Justice League.”

No word on release date, but I have to assume we’ll see the as-yet Untitled Justice League Movie in 2018 and I have to also assume Cavill, Affleck and Gadot will play a role. Gadot, after all, signed a three-picture deal, beginning with Batman vs. Superman. Affleck signed a multi-picture deal, though I haven’t seen specifics on how many films.

As for Snyder directing all three of these films, including Man of Steel, I really have no opinion other than… Eh. Does anyone go to these movies to see what Snyder has done, rather than just see the superheroes on the big screen? He definitely doesn’t have the draw of a Christopher Nolan or even a Joss Whedon at this point. In fact, I’d say for some he’s looked at as a detriment rather than a positive and I’d count myself among that “some”.

Batman vs. Superman is currently slated to go head-to-head with Marvel’s Captain America 3 on May 6, 2016,
