I think we’re all still scratching our heads as to why Sony Classics decided to take five films to this year’s Cannes Film Festival (more details on those films Magic in the Moonlight.
Starring Colin Firth as an Englishman brought in to help unmask a possible charlatan mystic (Emma Stone) only to ultimately fall for her. The film is set in the south of France in the 1920s against a backdrop of wealthy mansions, the South of France, jazz joints and fashionable spots for the wealthy of the Jazz Age. Eileen Atkins, Marcia Gay Harden, Jacki Weaver, Erica Leerhsen and Hamish Linklater co-star.
Sony has already set a July 25 release, which would have made a big premiere at Cannes in May a perfect jumping off point. Sony Classics, however, has been very guarded in even making available any assets as the above new picture comes courtesy of the Los Angeles Times and they haven’t even yet listed the film on their press site. Oh well, we’ll take what we get.
