While this figure also includes the $10.2 million Captain America:
The Winter Soldier brought in on Thursday evening, the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (or MCU as the kids like to call it) brought in an estimated $37 million on its opening day.
Compared to other recent Marvel movies, Thor: The Dark World opened with $31.8 million before bringing in $85.7 million during its opening weekend and Iron Man 3 brought in $68.8 million before raking in $174.1 million during its opening weekend. So, expect Captain America 2 to finish somewhere around $90-95 million I’d say.
CinemaScores for the film are looking like an “A”, which means this one is likely to hold up well over the weekend. All of this is great news for Marvel, proving The Avengers really boosted public awareness of all their heroes as Captain America: The First Avenger was the worst performer (if you don’t count The Incredible Hulk) of all the early MCU films and with audiences loving the sequel, it only means bigger and better things for the studio moving forward.
I’ll be back with more on Sunday and complete weekend estimates.
