‘Magic Mike 2’ Shoots This Fall, ‘Boyhood’ in July and Whedon Apologizes to Seoul for ‘Avengers 2’

Well, Magic Mike 2 is just around the corner and will reportedly be titled Magic Mike XXL with Steven Soderbergh‘s first assistant on the first film, Gregory Jacobs, taking over the directorial reins. Channing Tatum wrote the screenplay and is obviously expected to return for the sequel along with the likes of Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer and Matthew McConaughey. The film begins shooting this fall with Tatum previously saying it would be a road-trip comedy, but things could have changed since then. [Collider, The Playlist]

IFC Films announced yesterday that Richard Linklater‘s Boyhood will open in US theaters on July 11. With a screenplay by Linklater, Boyhood was filmed over short periods from 2002 to 2013, and stars Ellar Coltrane, Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette and Lorelei Linklater in a story covering 12 years in the life of a family. At the center is Mason, who with his sister Samantha, is taken on an emotional and transcendent journey through the years, from childhood to adulthood. It is my most anticipated movie of 2014.

HitFix is reporting Ridley Scott‘s Exodus starring Christian Bale as Moses has now added a subtitle and the December 12 release will now be known as Exodus: Gods and Kings. Not sure if that makes much of a difference considering everyone will still call it Exodus, but… whatever.

We’ve Digital Spy we should expect the return of Frozone in the sequel. “Every time I run into [writer/director Brad Bird], he always tells me Frozone is part of what’s going on, so I have to believe that. I guess they could be The Incredibles without Frozone, but I think Frozone would be a wonderful addition to what’s already there.”

Finally, Joss Whedon has issued an “apology” to Seoul, South Korea where The Avengers: Age of Ultron will soon be filming as it, apparently, will be this film’s New York, which is to say, the city that gets destroyed by outside forces while superheroes attempt to stop them.
