When Rooney Mara as cast as Tiger Lilly in Joe Wright‘s Pan it was said Wright was expecting to feature a “very international and multi-racial” cast. Well, with Mara aboard alongside Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard, Garrett Hedlund as Captain Hook and Adeel Akhtar as Smee we now have newcomer Levi Miller as Peter Pan. That’s Miller in the picture.
I’m not going to jump all over the lack of diversity in this cast so far, but I if the true intention was to feature a multi-racial cast the first decision shouldn’t be to fill the lead roles with Caucasians and go from there. As for the plot, Variety reports it will deviate from J.M. Barrie‘s original. Set during World War II, the story will follow Peter Pan, an orphan who is kidnapped by pirates and brought to Neverland, where he discovers he’s destined to save the land from the pirate Blackbeard.
Warner Bros. will release Pan in theaters on June 26, 2015.
