In 2013 it took ten months for a film to repeat three times in the #1 position at the box office, that was Gravity in early October. After this weekend we will already have our second threepeat of the year as The Lego Movie looks to follow in the footsteps of Ride Along. Now that can be looked at one of two ways, 1) the movies this year are so bad it’s easy for a decent one to repeat or 2) Lego Movie and Ride Along are so good they would have repeat no matter when they were released. I’ll let you decide which is which.
The readers and Laremy were really close together on the Lego prediction, while Laremy went a little higher on the next three, the first being the second weekend of About Last Night, Kevin Hart‘s second success of the year followed by what’s looking like a disastrous opening for Pompeii. With a budget somewhere around $80-100 million the reader predicted average of $12.5 million won’t pack it, but maybe international audiences will save this one from financial ruin.
And last we have the latest Kevin Costner film to discuss, this one being 3 Days to Kill, which was directed by McG of all people. Remember him? The readers have far less faith in this one than Laremy, going $1.8 million below his $12.5 million prediction.
I’ve included Laremy’s predictions and the average reader predictions directly below and I’ll be back on Sunday with box office estimates. To see Laremy’s full list of predictions and all 90 reader predictions for this weekend click here.
