I learned yesterday I might be interviewing Miles Teller for his role in Divergent, the upcoming adaptation of Veronica Roth‘s best-selling young adult novel as it seems Summit is preparing the full court press for the March 21 release and now it seems they’re already preparing for the future.
Last night it was announced Robert Schwentke (Red, R.I.P.D.) will direct Insurgent, the sequel to Divergent, continuing the journey of Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) as war now looms in her dystopian America, which is divided into five ideological factions to stabilize society and uphold peace. Every citizen must choose a permanent faction at age 16 – either their own or another.
Divergentco-stars Theo James, Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney, Tony Goldwyn, Ray Stevenson, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, Miles Teller, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort and Ole Christian Madsen and since I don’t know much about the franchise I can only tell you with any measure of confidence that James will be returning for Insurgent.
As of now, Insurgent is set for a March 20, 2015 release date and, should everything go according to plan, the third film in the trilogy, Allegiant will arrive on March 18, 2016 with no stated plans, as of yet, to split the final film into two, money-grubbing movies.
I’ve included the latest trailer, synopsis and poster for Divergent below.
Divergent is a thrilling adventure centered around the monumental choice of deciding who you are and discovering who you can be. Set in a future where America is divided into five ideological factions to stabilize society and uphold peace, every citizen must choose a permanent faction at age 16 – either their own or another. Struggling to survive her initiation into the most aggressive and physically demanding of the factions, Beatrice Prior (Shailene Woodley) must uncover her true hidden strengths and risk her family, her new found love, and her very own life to defuse a mysterious conspiracy which could change the balance of power forever.
