Top 40 Most Anticipated Movies of 2014: Part One – #31-40

Godzilla

May 16

I don’t know if I should be looking forward to a Godzilla reboot or running as far away from it as fast as I can. While Cloverfield isn’t really a film I have any desire to rewatch it seems like we’ve already had our Godzilla reboot and then you have the knock-off similarities in films such as Transformers and Pacific Rim, which seem to embrace modern technology as the villains that will destroy our modern day skyscrapers, born out of human arrogance and stupidity. Or just destroyed by metal, alien robots and beasts from portals in the middle of the ocean. Pick your poison.

An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

Exodus

December 12

Another film I’m not sure I should be looking forward to or hanging my head in questioning shame. That picture of Christian Bale above hardly screams Moses, but that’s exactly who Bale will portray in director Ridley Scott‘s interpretation of the exodus of the Jews from Egypt as led by Moses, based on the Bible’s book of Exodus.

I can only imagine what reactions to early marketing of the film will be once everyone gets a look at alongside Joel Edgerton as the Egyptian pharaoh Ramesses II, Aaron Paul as Joshua, the leader of the Israelite tribes and John Turturro and Sigourney Weaver as Ramesses’ parents, Seti and Tuya. Going to be quite the ride.

Unbroken

December 25

[amz asin=”1400064163″ size=”small”]I still haven’t seen Angelina Jolie‘s narrative feature debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey, but from all that I’ve heard it was a competent film, though an extreme downer. As for this latest effort, I’ve heard nothing but great things about Laura Hillenbrand‘s New York Times bestselling book “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption” from which the film is based so I’m ripe and ready to see what Jolie has to offer, though I will need to be sure and watch Blood and Honey soon.

Based on The New York Times bestselling book “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption” by Laura Hillenbrand (“Seabiscuit: An American Legend”), Unbroken follows the incredible life story of Olympian and war hero Zamperini who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII—only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.

So that does it for this first part of my 2014 Movie Preview. I will have films 21-30 for you tomorrow and will continue throughout the week with a new installment, leading to my top ten on Thursday, January 9. In the meantime, share some of your most anticipated titles in the comments below.
