‘World War Zequel’ Finds an ‘Impossible’ Director

Brad Pitt will once again star and produce and now word has come down that Juan Antonio Bayona will direct the sequel to World War Z, which I can only assume won’t be titled World War Z 2, but instead get some subtitle such as World War Z: Aftermath, sort of how the next Terminator film will supposedly be titled Terminator: Genesis.

At this time there is no word on how the film will pick up from the Wales-set finale or even who will write it, though The Hollywood Reporter say Bayona will work with whomever is brought aboard to help shape the script.

[amz asin=”B005LAIIN0″ size=”small”]The first film was based on Max Brooks’ novel of the same name documenting the days after the zombie apocalypse and in the film the story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.

No release date has been set, though I don’t expect this to hit theaters before 2016 considering the blood bath of sequels that currently make up the 2015 slate.

For those not familiar with the name, Bayona directed The Orphanage and The Impossible, the latter of which earned Naomi Watts an Oscar nomination last year.
