‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ Sequel Has a Pitch Reel and You are Mad!

I just got back from seeing The Hunger Games: Catching Fire to see the Internet alive with rage as Variety broke the news Frank Capra‘s theatrical failure that was only later deemed a classic once it was seen on television, It’s a Wonderful Life, just might get a sequel.

Star Partners and Hummingbird Prods. are collaborating on production of a sequel to the 1946 feature with a current title of It’s a Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story, which will center on the grandson of James Stewart‘s George Bailey who will be visited by an angel to show him how better off the world would be had he never been born. Wait? What? That doesn’t sound uplifting at all? Oh, I see, it’s something of A Christmas Carol meets sequel very few people will care about, sort of like [amazon asin=”B008VPBZZ0″ text=”A Christmas Story 2“] and [amazon asin=”B00ECGIL9K” text=”Home Alone: The Holiday Heist“], two films you didn’t know existed until I just mentioned them, both of which you’ll probably click on as you probably think I’m lying.

[amz asin=”B001UHOWXI” size=”small”]The production has already landed Karolyn Grimes, who played George Bailey’s daughter “Zuzu” in the original, and will return to play the angel. For those that can’t place the name, she’s the one that says, “Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings!” at the end. Also, discussions are already underway with fellow original cast members Jimmy Hawkins, who portrayed Tommy Bailey, and Carol Coombs, who played Janie Bailey.

No matter, this film is going nowhere, but to the same place the two films I mentioned above, straight to video. Either that or straight to Lifetime and if you don’t believe me, just watch the pitch reel below and tell me, honestly, do you ever expect to see this in thousands of theaters across the country?

I must admit, however, how protective so many people on the Internet seem to be of a film such as this when the Marvel franchise, Harry Potter, Twilight and The Hunger Games make sequel after sequel and no one bats an eye. I know why this is, but do you? And no, it has nothing to do with the fact it’s now considered a classic.
