I’ve finally given in and updated to the Disqus commenting system, primarily because they finally made it possible to use your RopeofSilicon account to comment in the Disqus system without me having to pay $99 a month to make it possible. At the same time, readers will also now be able to comment using their Disqus, Facebook, Twitter or Google profiles as well. A win-win if you ask me.
You will, however, still need a RopeofSilicon account to participate in the Box Office Challenge every Thursday and to use any other site-specific features in the future. But for those of you that wish to comment, you won’t need a RopeofSilicon account to do so.
For those of you that do have a RopeofSilicon account, you can use that account to comment with Disqus. You can either log in as you have in the past, or press the “RopeofSilicon” button as pictured in the image above, which will appear when you go to leave a comment. This will open a new window asking you to log in, once you hit submit, that window will close, the page will refresh and you can post your comment.
NOTE #1: If you want an avatar next to your name and you’re using a RopeofSilicon account, visit Gravatar.com and register with the email address you associate with your RopeofSilicon account. To get it to show up on the site, log out and then log back in and you should be ready to go.
For those that like to subscribe to the comments for particular posts, you’ll find a “Subscribe” button at the bottom of each comment thread. Click it and see green.
Readers that have been commenting for a long time will notice your comment counts have started over. This was unavoidable. However, you now have features such as the ability to edit your own comments, vote up and down comments and share your comments on Facebook and Twitter.
Hopefully this adds a new layer of functionality to the site and keeps the conversation going strong.
NOTE #2: If you notice or are having any issues, please direct all concerns to me directly at [email protected]. That said, the comments below are open for any questions you may have right now.
