UPDATE: Roger Friedman at Showbiz 411 is claiming to have received confirmation that The Wolf of Wall Street will not hit theaters until 2014. I will write an official post once the news is confirmed by Paramount.
PREVIOUS STORY: Earlier this week The Wolf of Wall Street may end up being delayed as the director had only just screened the film for the studio and it may not be able to make its November 15 release date.
Now, The Hollywood Reporter is taking it one step further saying it “won’t be ready for its scheduled” release as Scorsese attempts to cut down what is said to be a current, 180-minute cut of the film, hoping to have it ready by Christmas.
This, of course, would cause other issues with the studio’s current slate as a move to Christmas would mean having to move Kenneth Branagh‘s Jack Ryan from Christmas Day to a nasty little dead zone of a release date, January 17. While THR’s Pamela McClintock tries to spin opening a film over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday as a good thing, I hardly think trying to reignite a franchise in a month notoriously referred to as a “dumping ground” is a good thing, but say what you will.
Based on Jordan Belfort’s tell-all autobiography, The Wolf of Wall Street centers on Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio), a Long Island penny stockbroker who served 20 months in prison for refusing to cooperate in a massive 1990s securities fraud case that involved widespread corruption on Wall Street and in the corporate banking world, including mob infiltration.
